Clematis Hybrid

One of the most attractive and most popular climbing plants is the Clematis hybrid. The plate-shaped, touched single blossoms improve the appearance of balconies and of gardens between May and August.

The ideal soil is humus, rich in nutrient, permeable and humid. Although this plant prefers warm, sunny to half-shade location the roots should always remain cool and shady. To guarantee this, you can plant shrubs and summer flowers in direct neighborhood.

Clematis that blossoms in April / May should be barely trimmed. After the blossom, the dried flowers should be removed. If the plant has become too big, one can prune them to bring light in the lower part of the plant and it also stimulates the plant to blossom in the subsequent year. To prevent bare spots below, cut one stem so a new sprout can grow. One can repeat this every year, until the plant is rejuvenated.
