American Sandwich Bread

In the Philippines we used to eat American Sandwich Bread, here in Germany they have varieties of bread and I would say they are very good, okey most of them are a little bit too hardcool.

Only sometimescheeky, I have some cravings of what we used to eat back home, like our beloved Pan de Sal, Ensaymada, Mamon and Sandwich Bread.   Finally I found some interesting recipe (guess what, I found it on the web!)cheeky My husband find it a little too sweet so I just add half of the honey and instead adding 1/3 cup of water, I used only milk for this recipe.  And viola! It is the perfect bread for us!

This recipe yields 1 loaf of Sandwich Bread

3 - 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp salt
1 cup whole milk just warm not boiling
1/3 warm water
3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
2 - 3 tbsp honey (it depends on your taste)
1 envelope dry yeast
1 tbsp butter or margarine, softened

To begin with, preheat the oven to 180 degrees for 10 min and turn if off.

Mix milk, water, butter, honey and yeast in a bowl together.  

In another bowl combine the flour and salt.  Gradually add the milk mixture to the flour.  You can use a mixer but I just used my hand.  It is actually easy while saving energysad.  Just add some flour to get the right consistency and also, so that it doesn't stick to your hand while kneading the dough.  Form it into a small round ball.  Sprinkle some flour on the dough, placed it in a bowl and covered it with a kitchen towel.

I just made a SMALL loaf of bread and here are also what I used:

375g all-purpose flour
1tsp salt
250 ml warm whole milk
3-4 tbsp melted unsalted butter
2 - 3 tbsp honey or sugar ( or more, it depends on your taste)
1 envelope dry yeast (7g)

Here I put all ingredients in a bread machine. So no need to knead and put the dough in a greased baking pan.
Bake slowly at 150-160 degrees until done.

Place the bowl in the oven and let it rise for about 50 minutes or until it doubles its size.

Put the dough onto floured work surface and knead it once again to form a rectangle. Put it on a greased loaf pan.  

Cover it again with kitchen towel until the dough doubles its size about 20-30 minutes.

Turn the oven for 150 degrees. You dont have to preheat the oven since it is still warm. Place the pan and a glass dish with boiling water inside.

Bake it for about 40-50 minutes. You can check it also if it is done by pinching it using a bamboo stick or with a long thin metal.

Brush it with softened butter or margarine and let it cool.
