Siopao Pork Asado

Siopao (steamed buns) is a favorite food/snack in the Philippines stuffed with Pork Asado and eggs.

Pork Asado Filling


300g pork belly cut into thin slices marinate in
1/2 tsp garlic paste,
1 tbsp soya sauce,
1 tbsp brown sugar

300 pork filet cut into thin slices marinate in
1/2 tsp garlic paste,
1 tbsp soya sauce,
1 tbsp brown sugar

1 star anise
bay leaves
dried rosemary
fresh thyme
chopped chives for garnishing
Flour with water mixture to thicken sauce 

1.  Marinate the pork belly with 1 tbsp soya sauce, 1 tbsp brown sugar and 1/2 tsp garlic pasted and pork filet separately for about
     15 minutes. In a frying pan, add the marinated pork belly, stirring occasionally.
2.  Add a little water and cook until the meat is tender.
3.  Add the filet, star anise, bay leaves, dried rosemary.
4.  Cook until the meat is tender and add flour mixture to thicken the sauce
4.  Add the chives for garnishing
5.  You can add salt and pepper if needed.
6.  Set aside and let it cool to be used for the siopao filling? 

Siopao Pork Asado


4 cups flour (544g)
1 tsp salt
40g sugar
1 egg white
1/4 cup vegetable oil
230-250ml warm water
1 pack dry yeast (7g)
1 pack baking powder (16g)

cooked eggs for the filling
Pork Asado filling (see recipe above)

1. Using a bread machine add the ingredients as listed.
2. Without using a bread machine you can simply mix the ingredients an a big bowl as listed and knead until soft.
    Cover it in a plastic wrap or cloth and put it in a warm place.
3. Let the dough rise for about an hour.
4. Take it out and cut the dough equal pieces.
5. Form one into a ball and flatten it using a rolling pin. Scoop a tablespoon filling and a quarter cook egg.
    Sealed the dough carefully forming like a ball (as shown in the video).
6. Put a wax paper on the bottom of the siopao to prevent from sticking to the steamer.
7. Steam the siopao for about 15-20 minutes or until done.
