Beef Biryani

Beef Biryani is one of the best food I ever tried. Everything in this food smells great and you have this desire to eat more! laugh

For the marinade:
1 kg Beef cut in desired sizes
500g  yoguhrt
2 ripe red tomatoes diced up finely
300 g Onions thinly sliced 
1 bunch coriander or cilantro finely chopped
1 bunch of mint leaves finely chopped
2 or 3 green chili slit lengthwise (optional)
1/2 tsp of red chili powder
1 tsp of garam masala powder
1 tsp cummin seed powder
1 tsp coriander seed powder
Salt to taste

For Basmati Rice:
700 gms of good quality Basmati Rice
2 good pinches of saffron soaked in some warm milk

Whole Spices:
  6 green cardamon pods
  2 sticks of cinnamon or cassia
  4 Bay leaves
  8 cloves
  2 star anise
  1 tsp of whole cummin
  1 tsp whole aniseed
  10 to 12 black peppercorns)

Aluminium foil to seal the cooking vessel
Ghee Butter for frying


1. Deep-fried the onions until crisp and golden in ghee butter or oil (ghee will be the first choice for more authentic taste)

2. Marinate the beef in diced tomatoes, deep-fried onions, powdered cumin seeds, powdered coriander seeds, chili, garam masala, yoguhrt, chopped mint and coriander.

3. Seasoned it with salt. Mix very well and put in the refrigator overnight.

4. Heat ghee butter in a pan and fry the marinated beef and put them in a pressure cooker. Add some water and the marinade and cook them until the meat is tender. 

5. While the beef is cooking. Soaked the Basmati Rice in water for half an hour in water. After that, put enough water in a big pot and add the Whole Spices and some salt.  Bring to a boil.  Reduce heat and then add the Basmati Rice. The rice should be half-cooked because we will be cooking it again with the meat later. 

6. In a heavy pot make alternate layers of rice and meat it should end with a layer of rice. Sprinkle the saffron that is soaked in milk on top cover with a lid that fits properly or with foil and seal well so that no steam escapes. Cook on a low heat for 40 to 45 minutes.

7. Serve hot with Raita (1 cup thick yogurt, 1 cucumber diced, 1 tomato diced, 1 spring onion chopped up finely, salt and pepper to taste).
