Puto Balanghoy (Steam Cassava Cake)

Puto Balanghoy (Steam Cassava Cake) was my favorite snack during my teen years.  My mom used to ask a good friend who could cooked it for us and I was sitting all the time in the kitchen until it was cooked and finally served. Yummy!wink

Ingredients:

980g Grated Cassava
5-6 tbsp sugar
1 cup grated coconut (optional)
melted butter for coating
brown sugar for coating
molders

1. Using a clean cloth or cheese cloth, squeeze the juice out of the grated cassava.
2. In a bowl, mix the cassava with the sugar and grated coconut. I did not have any grated coconut while doing the video but it tastes better to add some.
3. Coat the small molders with melted butter and sprinkle some brown sugar.
4. Add the cassava mixture and cook it on a steamer for 30 minutes or longer until done.
5. Let them cool and take them out of the molder. Sprinkle them with brown sugar.

I personally love them coated with margarine and then sprinkled with brown sugar!laugh

Tip: If you can find cans (molders) with holes to make the cooking process faster it would be better.
